Do You Operate by Instinct or Intuition?
Instinct and Intuition Are Not the Same. Are You More Instinct or Intuition?
Do you operate by instinct or intuition? This is a fascinating and eye-opening query. First, let’s explore the difference, as defined by the Merriam-Webster dictionary:
- a natural or inherent aptitude, impulse, or capacity
- had an instinct for the right word, a largely inheritable and unalterable tendency of an organism to make a complex and specific response to environmental stimuli without involving reason, behavior that is mediated by reactions below the conscious level
- the power or faculty of attaining direct knowledge or cognition without evident rational thought and inference, immediate apprehension or cognition, knowledge or conviction gained by intuition, quick and ready insight
Instinct or Intuition
The terms intuition and instinct are often used interchangeably. But they have distinct meanings. Understanding the difference between the two can help you to better understand your own behavior and decision-making processes.
Whether in the office or at home, learn the difference so that you are on alert about the decisions you make.
Let’s take a look at what makes intuition and instinct different.
Instinct
Instinct can be a feeling, a fear, or a gut reaction to someone or a situation. There is no thought process involved in an instinctual response to an event.
Instinct is primal and is an automatic reflex or reaction that is built into our brain and also our body. Our bodies naturally have instinct and can sense when something is not right. Perhaps this would be a predator, either in nature, such as seeing a snake, or a person who is lurking around you. Also, our brains send signals to the body, and then we become alerted on all levels. Instinct is an inherent function, and a gift to us and our bodies and environments.
When you operate on instinct, there is a surety of your actions that you are correct in your thoughts and actions; however, operating on instinct alone can be treacherous.
- Instinct does not give you facts. There is not usually time to process the facts of a situation, but only time to assess the dangers, mainly because your brain does not give you the facts.
- The reactions you have will take place in split seconds.
- The result may or may not be correct, but you will not know until later.
- Instinct is based on self-preservation.
Turn on your "genius brain" in 7 seconds
Something bizarre happens to your brain when you do this 7-second ritual...
It's like flipping a hidden "genius switch" that's been gathering dust since childhood.
All humans are born with an incredible brain wave...
- The same one Thomas Edison used to solve his toughest problems
- The same one that makes billionaires have revolutionary ideas
- The same one NASA studied in their most brilliant scientists
But here's the shocking part... 98% of adults have this powerful brainwave completely DEACTIVATED. (That's why great ideas and solutions rarely come to us anymore...)
But now you can "reactivate" this genius wave in just 7 seconds. No meditation, no expensive equipment, no complicated techniques. Just pop in your headphones, and let this specially designed sound do the work...

Intuition
Intuition is based on a higher state of consciousness, accessed by training and wisdom. Intuition is often underused because a person does not know what it is or how to access it. "While it is not a substitute for rational thought or conscious reasoning, intuition can provide valuable insight into situations that may appear complex on the surface. As further research continues to uncover new information about this fascinating phenomenon, its potential to improve decision-making will become increasingly clear.” Research continues into how intuition plays an important role in the cognitive process.
Both Instinct and Intuition are needed, and can be developed by using the techniques of meditation. The goal of meditation is to rise above the chatter of the mind to another state of awareness, or consciousness. It is accessible to anyone who wants it, every day. Learning how to meditate only takes sincerity, a little time, and the desire to make the effort.
How to Meditate to Develop Intuition and Instinct
If you feel like you don’t trust your intuition or instinct, you can use meditation to learn how to access both and use them in your everyday life.
Meditation:
- Decide to be definite in your goals
- Find a quiet place
- Dedicate a specific time and place daily or weekly
- Learn to let go and release
- Imagine your mind going up and up to a higher place within your forehead.
- Focus at the point between the eyebrows and visualize a brilliant orb of white light.
- Dissolve all of your thoughts into that orb of light and then let your entire being be absorbed into the white light.
- For all thoughts that distract you, see them float out of the orb into space, then refocus your attention on the orb of light.
- Breathe in for the count of 5, hold for the count of 5, exhale for the count of 5, then repeat.
- Practice breathing for 10 rotations.
- Practice this session for at least 20 minutes.
- As you learn this technique, you will want to stay in the meditation session for long periods of time.
- Always refocus if your thoughts wander.
- You will now have access to higher points of Intuition and Instinct in your life.
- Use your newfound intuition and instinct to help guide your decisions
Learn to operate at a higher level by using your given gifts of instinct and intuition and by adopting the practices of meditation and contemplation.
